New regulations on oil heating in Quebec: you can keep your system!
Contrary to what various sources might suggest, owners of an oil-fired heating system do not have to replace it with a system using another energy source, such as electricity, as of December 31, 2023.
While since December 31, 2021, it is forbidden to install an oil furnace in a new construction, the new regulation coming into force on December 31 will prohibit their replacement in existing buildings. Therefore, those who wish to keep their current oil system will be able to do so without any problem.
However, appliances that are more than 20 years old will be subject to regular maintenance, repair or engine replacement.
